Cabo de Rama Fort stands on a rugged headland in Canacona taluka, overlooking the Arabian Sea. According to legend, Lord Rama stayed here with Sita during his exile, which gives the cape its name. The fort was held by local Hindu rulers before the Portuguese captured it in the 18th century, and they later rebuilt its defences. The fort's laterite walls, gateway and cannon remains are still visible. Inside stands the whitewashed Church of St Anthony, which is still in use. The headland offers some of the most dramatic coastal views in Goa, with cliffs dropping to the sea and a small beach below. A path leads down to the secluded beach for adventurous visitors. It is worth the trip for its legends, ruins and spectacular sea views.
