Menezes Braganza House
Chandor, India

The Menezes Braganza House in Chandor is one of the grandest Portuguese-era mansions in Goa. The house dates back to the 17th century and has been home to the Menezes Braganza family for generations. It is divided into two wings owned by different branches of the family, both of which can be visited. The family produced the noted journalist and freedom figure Luis de Menezes Braganza. The house is famous for its long facade with many windows, its grand ballroom with chandeliers, Italian marble floors and antique furniture. A private chapel in the east wing is said to hold a relic of St Francis Xavier. Family members often guide visitors personally through the rooms. It is worth the trip as the best-known window into the life of Goa's old landed families.
