Goa Chitra Museum
Benaulim, India

Goa Chitra Museum in Benaulim is an ethnographic museum dedicated to Goa's traditional agricultural and rural way of life. It was founded by the Goan artist and restorer Victor Hugo Gomes, who collected the objects over many years from villages across Goa. The museum holds thousands of artefacts, including farming tools, kitchen utensils, musical instruments, carts, palanquins and religious objects. The collection explains how Goans lived and worked before industrialisation. The complex has expanded to include Goa Chakra, a collection of traditional vehicles, and Goa Cruti, focused on the Portuguese influence on Goan life. An organic farm on the site grows traditional crops. Guided tours bring the collection to life. It is worth the trip for one of the most thorough looks at Goa's rural heritage.
